FAQ

The questions that come up before an engagement is scoped. Each service page carries its own FAQ for the questions specific to that engagement.

What does KNA Group actually do?

The firm builds and runs finance operations for incorporated Canadian companies of roughly ten to seventy-five people: the month-end close, the controls around it, the monthly reporting pack, and the systems that produce them. Engagements are bought separately or together, and each one ends with a documented process the company keeps.

Who does the work?

Khaled Hawari, who founded the firm and runs the engagements himself. He ran month-end close at Harris Computer Systems through a run of corporate acquisitions, carried IFRS 15 and 16 into acquired entities, and spent roughly eight years before that in Ottawa practice. There is no intake team and nothing is delegated to a junior, because there is no junior.

Is this an accounting firm?

No. The firm does not perform audits, reviews or compilation engagements, and it does not replace your external accountant. It runs the finance function that produces the records your accountant and any practitioner work from, and one of its standing deliverables is a working paper file another accountant can follow without asking a question.

Do you do personal taxes?

Not here. This is a corporate engagement for incorporated companies. Khaled Hawari runs a separate independent tax practice at khaledhawari.ca, which is engaged separately and covers personal and corporate returns.

Where do you work, and do we need to be in Ottawa?

The firm is based in Ottawa and works with incorporated companies across Canada. The work is delivered remotely inside the ledger, bank and tools the company already uses, so geography decides meeting times rather than whether the engagement works.

What does an engagement cost?

It is scoped, not listed, because the honest answer depends on the state of the books, the number of entities and what is actually being bought. The scoping conversation is an hour, it is with the person who would do the work, and it produces a written scope with a number in it rather than an estimate range.

How do we start?

A message through the contact page reaches Khaled Hawari directly. The first conversation establishes what state the close is in, which of the five engagements fits, and whether remediation has to come first. If the answer is that you do not need the firm, that is the answer you get.

What happens when the engagement ends?

The function is handed over, documented, to whoever runs it next, including an in-house hire the firm helped you recruit into a working process. The handover method is published on this site in full, because an engagement designed to be leavable is the strongest evidence the process actually works.
