Nothing here is advice for your situation

Everything published on this site is general. It describes how this firm approaches finance operations work, using artifacts generalised from real engagements.

None of it was written with your company’s facts in front of it: not your contracts, not your ledger, not your systems, not your lender’s covenants, not your fiscal year. A method that is right for one company is wrong for another for reasons that only surface once somebody looks. Do not act on anything here without advice on your own situation from someone who has looked at it.

We do not perform audits or reviews

The firm does not carry out assurance engagements. It does not audit financial statements, it does not perform review engagements, and it issues no assurance report of any kind.

In Ontario those services are public accounting, and they may only be provided by a public accountant licensed under the Public Accounting Act, 2004. The firm is not licensed under that Act and does not hold itself out as being.

The firm also does not issue compilation engagement reports. A monthly reporting package we produce is management information, prepared for the people running the company. It carries no assurance, no practitioner’s report and no opinion, and it must not be presented to a lender, an investor, a regulator or a buyer as though it did.

Where an engagement needs assurance, the work goes to a licensed practitioner. Preparing a file that a practitioner can work from is something we do. Signing the report is not.

No professional designation is held or implied

Khaled Hawari, the firm’s principal, does not hold a professional accounting designation.

Nothing on this site is a claim to be a Chartered Professional Accountant, a chartered accountant, a certified general accountant, a certified management accountant, or a licensed public accountant, and nothing here should be read as one. If any page ever reads that way, the page is wrong and we want to know.

What stands behind the work is a commerce education and a record of doing it: full-cycle corporate accounting, month-end close management through acquisitions, reconciliation, control design and management reporting in Canadian companies. That is what is offered, and it is offered under its own honest name.

This is not tax advice, and not personal tax advice at all

Nothing on this site is tax advice.

The site does not address personal income tax, and the firm does not prepare personal returns or advise individuals on their own tax position. A separate practice at khaledhawari.ca does that work. It is a distinct engagement, agreed separately and billed separately, and reading this site creates no relationship with it.

Where corporate tax arises inside a finance operations engagement, the return and the filing position stay with your tax preparer. We produce the records and the reconciliations that a return is built from. We do not sign it.

The artifacts published here are illustrative

The checklists, control matrices, close calendars and working paper indexes on this site are published because an owner deciding whether to hire a finance function is entitled to see how the work is actually done rather than read a page of adjectives.

They are generalised. No client is identifiable in any of them, no client figure appears in any of them, and none of them is a compliance product. A control matrix built for a fifteen person company is wrong for a fifty person one. Every artifact here assumes judgement in the person applying it, and none of them substitutes for it.

No outcome is promised

Nothing on this site promises a result. Not a close date, not a clean year end, not a lender’s decision, not a valuation, not a saving. Where a page describes work that was done, it describes work that was done, and nothing follows from that about what would happen in your company.

Accuracy over time

Accounting standards, tax rules, banking practice and software all change, sometimes between one fiscal year and the next.

Everything here is accurate to the best of our knowledge as at the date shown on the page, and pages are not revised as the world moves. If something on this site matters to a decision you are about to make, check that it still holds before you rely on it.

Changes to this page

This page is amended when the scope of the work changes or when a statement on it stops being accurate. The date at the top is when it last changed.

If anything on this site is unclear about what we do and do not take on, ask through the contact page. Being told plainly that we are the wrong firm is a better outcome for everyone than finding out later.
