KNAFounder and principal
Khaled Hawari
Khaled Hawari is an Ottawa finance professional and the founder of KNA Group. He runs the finance function for incorporated Canadian companies that have outgrown the way their books are currently kept.

For two years Khaled Hawari was a corporate finance analyst at Harris Computer Systems, where the reporting calendar had to keep working while the company kept buying other companies. An acquired business unit arrives with its own chart of accounts, its own revenue contracts and its own idea of what a close looks like, and somebody has to make all of them report on the same day of the month. He owned full-cycle accounting through that, carried IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 into the acquired entities, and unified their charts of accounts. Before Harris came eight years in Ottawa practice and on his own account: full-cycle books, corporate and personal returns, and assurance work where the deliverable is a working paper file another accountant can follow without asking a question. He works day to day in CaseWare and ProFile. His degrees are in commerce, from the University of Ottawa and from Carleton University. He works in English, French and Arabic, and is based in Ottawa. He also runs an independent tax practice at khaledhawari.ca, which is engaged separately from this firm.

HowThe way the work runs
01On an engagement
The first month is reading, not changing. Three closes get walked line by line, with whoever posted them, before a single process is rewritten. Companies that skip that step end up with a close calendar that fits a textbook rather than their ledger.
02What stays with you
Every process is documented as it is built, in your own systems rather than in a deck. The point of a fractional arrangement is that the company can absorb the function later, and a function that only works while one person is present has not been built properly.
03Why the work is written down
The insights on this site are the working documents from real engagements, generalised. Publishing them is a discipline: a checklist that cannot survive being read by somebody outside the engagement is usually a checklist that was not finished.

A scoping conversation with Khaled Hawari is a reading exercise. What was posted, when, by whom, and what had to be reopened. That hour decides whether there is an engagement here at all.
